We couldn't visit all the places we would have liked to. There were some that were just too far away from our tour (a detour would have needed too much time), others were unreachable because of seasonal reasons. This page lists some of the places we missed, which is a pity, but as you can imagine, we were very happy that we could see and enjoy so many other unbelievable places.

Sequoia National Park / Kings Canyon National Park

If travelling in Yosemite in October it may easily happen that Tioga Pass is closed. They do that after the first snow (October or November), and then it usually stays so until around May of the following year. Because Tioga is the only pass that crosses the Sierra Nevada, there are two choices if the pass is closed: Drive around the Sierra Nevada on the northern or the southern side. We were lucky and could cross the Sierra Nevada, but we had plans for the case that there had been snow. Our choice would have been to leave Yosemite National Park via its southern exit and drive to the neighbouring National Parks of Sequoia and Kings Canyon. From there we would have continued to Death Valley. Finally those two National Parks were the only ones in the Southwest of the USA that we hadn't visited.
